The Unlikely Housewife: Get to know her before BlogHer’09

lg-purpleba-shoeplatecopyrightWhat is your favorite word?

love

What is your least favorite word?

it’s a bad word, so I won’t say it – let’s just say it’s used to describe less than pleasant women, as well as a body part. I find it very vulgar and unpleasant.

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?

Beautiful weather, a nice view, sharing time with people I love doing something fun, simple, relaxing. These are all things that make me happy. And when I’m happy I’m much more likely to feel inspired and feel like sharing that through writing, photos, etc. Also, I find my daughter’s enthusiasm contagious.

And the great part is that it can happen at any time. I was in NYC with my daughter the other day, in Madison Square Park. It was sunny, but it had just rained. The rain gave the park this gorgeous glow, the grass and trees were really bright green, and they looked beautiful in the sunlight! I was with my 3 year old, Stella, and she was running around and so happy, I coulnd’t help but feel happy myself. I felt like I could see it through her eyes. She was so excited when they turned on the water and the fountain came to life!

Opportunism. And the tendency some people have to exclude others and feel superior because of really silly reasons: ethnicity, income bracket/status, appearance, or whether they are part of the “popular crowd” or not. That’s a very unpleasant behavior, no matter whether I end up being one of the precious few selected or not. Who wants to hang out with someone like that?

Who are your favorite characters in history?

Galileo Galilei, who was brilliant and stuck to his guns.

William Shakespeare, who wrote provocative and unusual plays.

Leonardo Da Vinci, who was quirky and intelligent and showed that arts and science aren’t mutually exclusive.

I have also always liked the Greek philosophers, especially Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, for questioning things and sharing their knowledge with others, which still maintaining that everyone had a right to form their own opinion and beliefs.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I’d like to be a professional writer, or an art and leisure journalist.

What blog do you most enjoy reading?

Oh, there’s so many, it’s impossible to pick just one! Ok, Fine, Dammit is one of my absolute favorites. Scary Mommy, Motherhood in NYC and Happy Meals and Happy Hour would also definitely make the list :-)

Who has the best tweets?

@onehipmama and @Mommy4Cocktails are really fun

What is the best thing about BlogHer events?

Well, I don’t know yet, because this will be my first.

But I can tell you what I’m really excited about: meeting my favorite bloggers in real life! Internet has made it possible to form friendships with people who live very far from you, and that is incredible. But being able to meet them and give them a hug will be really great!

What do you most fear about attending BlogHer ’09?

Feeling a little lost. There will be a lot of people and a lot going on!

How would you like to die?

I haven’t thought about that, and I’m not ready to answer that. The superstitious gene in me is kicking in – I’m Italian, after all.

What is your twitter name?

@HipMom

  • Haha! Didn't catch that. I'll go fix it.
  • Happy Meal and happy House?? where did that come from? That's what happens when you are answering questions from your daughter while typing answers to completely unrelated questions ;-)
